Pray with Us

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead. (Eph. 1:18-20)

Have you ever thought about where your power comes from? Remember when you were little and your parents would say, "You need to clean your plate so you'll be big and strong." Or, when they would say, "You need to drink that milk so you'll have healthy bones." Or now, when you pull up to the gas pump and spend that large amount of money to power your car.

Where does our power really come from? According to this verse we have incomparably great power for us who BELIEVE. We must believe in order to access the power that only comes from God. And that power is the same that raised Christ from the dead. Imagine that you, that I, have access to power that can raise the dead. How do we access that power in our lives? We must believe God, not just believe in Him for salvation, but truly believe Him. We must trust Him. Trust His promises, His word, His love. Trust that His mercies are new every morning. Trust that He is fair, righteous and just. Trust that He wants to extend grace to us in our hour of need. Trust that He will provide for us, teach us, guide us and deliver us. Trust that He really does want what is best for us, but even more than that, He knows what is best for us much more than we do.

How many times have I missed God's power being shown in my life because like the father in Mark 9 I had unbelief, but in my case I failed to confess that and just ask Him, "Help me overcome my unbelief!" How many times have you missed it? Why aren't more mountains moving from here to there? I believe it is a lack of faith, a lack of MY faith…my unbelief. And all I can do is cry out:

Jesus, help ME overcome my unbelief!
